WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?

Traditional Syllabus, Modern Pedagogy

The Dar’am Oxford ʿĀlimiyyah Certificate programme is based on the traditional madrassa syllabus first developed in the Indian subcontinent by a descendant of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (r.a.), Shaikh Nizamuddin Sihalwi (r.a.) in the city Lucknow during the early 1700’s. The curriculum has over the years, undergone several modifications and adaptations to suit the emerging needs of the Ummah. Most notably, in the curricula of Dar al-Ulum Deoband and that of Dar al-Ulum Nadwatul Ulama which are both based on the original Dars e Nizami of Farangi Mehal Lucknow curriculum but adapted for different contexts. The Dar’am Oxford Alimiyyah Certificate programme is also adapted specifically for students in the Western context, primarily for students at university and other similar institutions.

This course will take 6 years of study, which may be taken in a modular form.

In the first year you can expect to study: Nahw, Sarf, Arabic Literarture, History, Fiqh, Quran Translation, Hadith and Aqidah. The medium of instruction is English.

When are your classes?

Classes run each Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. We have chosen this intensive one-day a week approach to facilitate learning for those in full-time learning or work.

Are your classes in-person or virtual?

We expect students in Oxford to attend in person. There is an option of hybrid learning for those outside of Oxford.

Do classes run throughout the year?

We have holiday periods to accommodate for Ramadan and university exams. The latter consideration allows students to engage with their Islamic studies without pressure being placed on academic pursuits. Click the link to access our term card for 2023 – 24.
